Huriata - YikeBike: Business/Economics

I studied an innovative product, the ‘YikeBike’, in class today! It’s a non-pedalling, fast and easy to used bike that you can fold up and carry.

It’s main advantage is being capable of travelling long distances with little to use effort and energy. You are able to sit up as if it were a moving chair (literally), it can swivel and move smoothly; and it can prevent being stolen from a thieve with its particular locks on the wheels.

Personally, I don’t like it and I wouldn’t I support it, all I could say to the person who made it is, “Kudos!”. I wouldn’t recommend it to friends or family - it all depends. And I predict it to have small sales because everyone would either have a car… or a bike, a normal one.

Maze Game and Flappy Bird - DigiTech: Huriata

What types of blocks and codes did you use in the games.

I used many demand blocks, like; direction blocks; sound blocks; If blocks; display blocks and repeats.

What did the blocks and codes enable you to do with the Games?

By putting movement blocks, sound/display blocks and if blocks with in the repeat block, it enables the game to play in a certain way to prevent failure/death. With the movement block, the character is able to move, the direction block allows the character to face or turn in a different direction. When put in a repeat block, it will continue to play through those commands until stopped. The display and sound block let you add characteristics to the game.

What did you learn from this exercise?

I learnt how to use this program and how to make codes work... to some degree.

SOS - Entrepreneurial Skills: Huriata

My strongest entrepreneurial skills that I have are: Creativity, independence and work-ethic.

My comment of being creative in my own way is having many ideas, to complete something or make something creatively is fun to me; It's the best way to be productive in my opinion. For this skill, I ranked myself at an 'A', the reason I gave an 'A' was because I do have a lot of ideas, and many appreciate them. More of the artistic spectrum.

I can be very independent, depending on the situation. I can work by myself for long periods of time  and complete/ almost complete work, and I can do most things own my own given the tools. I rated myself at a 'B', meaning I may struggle from time to time and need someone to lean on.

Work-ethic really depends on my attitude. I put a lot of my time and effort into art/drawing rather than academic work. For that, I rated myself at a 'B', this is because I make poor decisions for what I should be putting work into; such as the two listed.

My weakest skill has to be self-responsibility. Meaning I can't be responsible for myself, for a lot of reasons. - 'C'

What have you been successful in this past year, 2018? - SOS - Huriata

What have you been successful in this past year, 2018?

I don’t know if I’ve done anything considered to be successful to me.I guess, my tolerance. My tolerance has never been so high before and I think that would be successful. I’ve been able to say “yes” more often, but I still know when I feel the need to say “no”.

What do you value the most?

I value my family the most. Because my family is everything, and I have fun being with them and spending time with them. They encourage me, support me, look after me, and I feel that I need to give back by doing well.

Recount - Weekend

in the weekend I drew a lot, dwarfs, elves, birds, goliaths. Sadly I haven't been able to finish a complete picture, so I'm on a drawing craze. I played some D&D (dungeons and dragons) on Saturday too.
I have recently been able to draw buffier structures and using a pen isn't as hard. Otherwise, I didn't do much.

FTE - Pasta Salad: Huriata

Pasta Salad:

Ingredients:

  • Pasta
  • Ham
  • Corn
  • Tomato
  • Red onion
  • Mayo

Steps:

  1. Cook pasta until it is soft, dice ham, add ham and corn to pot to warm up.
  2. Drain ALL water from the pasta and run it under cold water.
  3. Dice tomato and red onion into small pieces and mix with mayo.
Experience:

I only had trouble dicing the tomato and keeping the juice from spilling out too much. I'm always bad at dicing vegetables, and I normally do it just enough so it's small. This time I diced through half of the vegetables with a base at the bottom that held the diced bits on the top, then I did the rest. When I had all the ingredients in the bowl, my cooking teacher added mayo... too much for my taste. I ended up with a sore stomach but everyone else at home enjoyed it so I think it's a good quick food for guests or a BBQ.

SOS - Huriata: What is Parliament?

What is Parliament?

The Parliament is made up of two main roles to govern the country - The house of representatives and sovereign. In the House of representatives has 120 members of parliament (MP) that have roles like how taxes are spent or where it is used (schools, medical, buildings), updating laws and making laws. The role of Sovereign is to accept or sign off any new law that is made, which is done by the Governor general, Patsy Reddy, in place of the Queen. These are the roles of the Parliament to govern NZ.

Cybersmart blog: Tips for Young People- HURIATA

Cybersmart - Huriata

What it means to be cybersmart and why it is important?

Being cybersmart means using the initiative to do the right thing on the internet; such as
using positive language, being respectful and being appropriate. It’s important that we
follow these values, just like when we’re offline, to prevent hurting somebody's feelings
and to avoid negative conflict. Also, it’s about protecting your image and being aware of
the things you put or say on the media, like nasty comments and your personal
information which only those you trust should know. The Impact of being cybersmart
creates a safe environment for those who use the media and browse the internet.

Two things you learnt about being cybersmart and how you could apply it to your
own life

How to be appropriate and change your settings to private or friends only. The way I’ve
been appropriate online is by posting pictures/ images that won’t affect my reputation
negatively, one’s with family members or my hobby. If there are things that I don’t want
others seeing, I change my settings to private or friends only - I use these skills for apps
like facebook, twitter and instagram.

A personal strategy a young person can do to help themselves if they are being
cyberbullied

To avoid involvement with negativity and ignore it. Whatever someone says about you
online or in real life is trivial, it doesn’t matter as long as you know that
they’re being an ******* and that you are not what they say you are. When you think the
bullying is getting out of control, notify an adult that you trust, like a teacher or parent.

A interpersonal strategy a young person can do to help their friend who is
being cyberbullied

Ask your friends how you could help them through the bullying or tell
an adult (teachers, parents). You ‘ask’ because they might say yes meaning that they
trust you, but if they say no it could be for multiple reasons for why they rejected you; like pride,
embarrassment or independence. Sometimes they could have it under control, but
always be mindful for the feelings of your friend. 2 The adult will be needed when it
starts to get serious.

A personal strategy a young person who finds themselves bullying other young people can do to help build their self-esteem and change their behaviour

Was is kind? Why would you say that? Always refer back to those questions. It helps you look back at yourself, and think if this is the person that you are proud of and want to be, being a bully is not the same as being cool.

Tips for young people:

Be humble: being humble means you know where you are and how you should behave.
(It also helps to keep yourself out of trouble)

Use kind language: If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it. Why try to hurt someone purposely when you know what impact it might have on them as young adults.

Don’t gossip: Because what do you know? If you aren’t the actual person then you shouldn’t go telling others about someone else. If it isn’t your business, why should it be anyone else's?

SOS - Our Small World; Youth Challenge: Huriata

Tokelau is a very, small country. After it’s loss of land/ beach, it was replaced with stonewalls - I think it may be because of the water rising in the pacific ocean, causing the space on land to shrink. The dilemma with having such a small land, is also the problem of having a smaller population. It’s estimated that there is only 1,499 people of Tokelau. And now kids are having to migrate to other countries such as NZ, Australia and America to better their education. In most cases resulting with them not coming back. The Tokelau council are trying to find ways to bring their youth, or influence them to come back to Tokelau so that the culture doesn’t die out.

SOS - our small world tokelau: Huriata

'Our Small World' - Reflection of problems:
Our small world features Tokelau and how they live and communicate. A problem that they seem to have and is noticeably a struggle, is the decrease of the tokelau population.

Because of the type of state they are living in, they have to send their youth (16+) to further their education overseas, to study abroad. The problem with this is that it is hard to influence them to come back to the village because they may be with a lover, or elsewhere, resulting with the older group taking the jobs of the young. In one result, someone came back to Tokelau but couldn’t settle because of the way they’ve been in another country.

SOS - Key Concepts Definition: Huriata

WALA - the key concepts for Globalisation Topic.
Two new concepts that I learnt in SOS (social studies) is:

Migrate - When animals move from one place to another during seasonal change. This means that when the season changes, or when there needs to be an immediate relocation - they move from their previous location to a new one.
Globalisation - Interacting with other countries (having influence) by organisations or companies, e.g: google, McDonald's, Facebook. It's when (other) countries are influenced by companies and organisation, so with google, it is a large company that runs it's service online! And the internet is a HUGE influence in the world.
